Shoaib Ahmed Malik

Shoaib Ahmed Malik serves as Lecturer in Science and Religion at the School of Divinity under the auspices of the University of Edinburgh. He brings a rich teaching experience spanning the US, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. A standout alumnus of the University of Bath, Malik excelled as the top graduate in BEng of Chemical Engineering. He later became one of the first Muslim students to embark on an MSc in Philosophy, Science, and Religion at the University of Edinburgh. With two PhDs in Chemical Engineering and Theology from the University of Nottingham and St Mary’s University, respectively, Malik is further enriching his Islamic studies under the guidance of Sh. Ali Laraki, among other scholars. In addition to being a Senior Fellow of AdvanceHE and Fellow of the International Society for Science and Religion (ISSR), he is the Chief Editor for Palgrave Macmillan’s groundbreaking monograph series and encyclopedia on Islam and Science, both world-firsts. Malik’s acclaimed work, Islam and Evolution: Al-Ghazālī and the Modern Evolutionary Paradigm (Routledge), was recognised as the best academic book in science and religion by the ISSR in 2022. He is currently devoted to producing scholarly articles, book chapters, and volumes exploring the nuanced relationship between Islam and Science, with his comprehensive publications available on his Academia page.
