Sajid H. Fahumy
OMS-III, Rowan–Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine
Sajid H. Fahumy is a third-year medical student at Rowan–Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine, with a strong interest in child and adolescent psychiatry. He earned his B.A. in Biomathematics, with a minor in Public Health, from Rutgers University Honors College.Sajid is deeply interested in the intersection of physical, emotional, and spiritual health, particularly through an Islamic ethical lens. His background includes training in traditional Islamic sciences under local scholars, which informs his approach to holistic and values-based patient care.
In addition to his academic work, Sajid is actively involved in community education. He serves as a Qur’an teacher for children, where he founded and leads a tilawah program focused on fostering both learning and a love for the Qur’an. His experiences reflect a commitment to service, mentorship, and integrating faith-informed perspectives into healthcare.
Internship Experience & Impact
During his internship with II&M, he contributed to the development and organization of the Exploring Bioscience and Islam course, engaging with key topics at the intersection of science and Islamic thought. He also supported applied work through the development of a replication guide for an End-of-Life Healthcare workshop designed for Muslim communities.
His research focused on Islamic ethical perspectives related to artificial nutrition and hydration (ANH), where he analyzed classical fatwa literature in both English and Arabic. This work strengthened his research skills and deepened his understanding of how Islamic ethical frameworks can inform contemporary clinical decision-making.
The experience broadened his perspective on bioethics and reinforced his commitment to integrating Islamic principles into modern medical practice, shaping his approach to patient care and future research.
