Anees: Spiritual Companionship for Muslim patients

Bridging the gap in spiritual care for hospitalized Muslim patients across the U.S.

Anees is committed to supplementing chaplaincy services by offering spiritual companionship and emotional support to hospitalized Muslim patients.

Why Anees Exists

The Anees program addresses a glaring need for faith-specific spiritual companionship in U.S. hospitals. Muslim patients, disproportionately impacted by staff shortages and the pandemic, often lack holistic emotional and spiritual care during hospitalization.

Rooted in the meaning of “Anees” — a friend, a source of calm and happiness — the program trains volunteers to work alongside chaplaincy departments, offering emotional availability, compassion, and spiritual support to those in need.

01. Nationwide Shortages

The demand for chaplaincy services has far outpaced the supply of trained staff, leaving hospitalized Muslim patients without the critical spiritual support they deserve.

02. Diverse Needs

With over 77 ethnicities, languages, and unique backgrounds, the American Muslim population, including refugees and marginalized groups, requires culturally and faith-sensitive care.

03. Our Response

Anees volunteers step in to fill this void, offering compassionate presence, emotional availability, and faith-centered support that nurtures healing and emotional well-being.

How We Serve

Compassion, Care, and Faith

Anees partners with hospital chaplaincy departments to address the growing demand for faith-sensitive care. With limited resources and staff shortages, many Muslim patients struggle to access spiritual support tailored to their beliefs. Our trained volunteers step in, working seamlessly alongside chaplains to ensure patients' emotional and spiritual needs are met with dignity and compassion.

1. Offer Spiritual Companionship

Kind words, simple prayers, and meaningful presence help nurture hope and emotional well-being during challenging times.

2. Provide Emotional Support

Listening with care and compassion to ensure every patient feels heard, valued, and connected.

3. Address Faith-Specific Needs

Recognizing cultural and religious significance to offer holistic, faith-centered healing.
