The Initiative on Islam and Medicine (II&M), in coordination with UMMA, hosted an in-person community education workshop exploring the intersection of Islamic values, clinical decisions, and end-of-life healthcare. Lunch was provided by UMMA.

Planned and Presented in Coordination with the Initiative on Islam and Medicine

The workshop featured Aasim Padela, MD, MSc, FACEP, Founder of the Initiative on Islam and Medicine and an emergency medicine physician, and Ramy Salah, MD, Medical Director of outpatient and home-based palliative care at Sutter Health.

The workshop addressed common knowledge gaps around end-of-life care, advance care planning, and hospice from an Islamic bioethical perspective. Participants explored how Islamic teachings interface with the U.S. healthcare system and gained practical tools to support informed decision-making.

The session provided an opportunity for participants to engage with experts, ask questions, and discuss the ethical and clinical considerations that arise throughout end-of-life healthcare trajectories.

CME credits were available to eligible participants.
